New update in Google Search console

On 11 January 2021, Google announces some updates in its coverage reports, which will help us in solving related issues of website indexing. Let’s see these changes, updates, and how they are useful in indexing and ranking.

In Google, a search console coverage report tells you how much your website is an index. It also tells us about the errors, warnings, and which page is not indexed or excluded, and why is it excluded?

Google Search Console is a free service that is offered by Google that helps you, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot your site's presence in Google Search results. You receive alerts when Google encounters indexing, spam, or other issues on your site. The Google search console is one of the most powerful, free SEO tools.



So, there are four changes in these new updates in Google Search Console.

Crawl Anomaly:- One reason for excluding pages is crawl anomaly. Crawl anomaly is not a definite error. The thing which is not classified easily is known as an anomaly. Whenever Google finds an error in crawling, then Google tags it as a generic crawl anomaly. In the language of Google, website makers should look after their websites themselves. But now by this new update, Google will tell you that for which reasons you are facing the problem of error in crawl so that you can solve this crawl problem. Google will be providing complete details for every type of crawl error.

Indexed but Blocked:- Submitted but blocked errors will be updated in the index but blocked warning. Sometimes it happens that pages are blocked by robot.txt but got indexed, are reported as an index but blocked (warning) instead of submitted but blocked (error). We need to understand the reason behind this change as Google has already shifted many of its tasks to artificial intelligence. Like for many issues before, Google used to punish, penalize, and de-index the website, but now Google is just adjusting the ranking signal in real-time. Now Google also started taking action such as for undesired backlinks, Google nil the weight of those backlinks, if the content is spammy then Google shifts the rank down. The robot.txt also works with the same rule. It is a powerful tool and Google also follows similar rules which are by robot.txt, but if there are two instructions between robot.txt and Google, and they conflict with each other, then Google will follow an all-time-low damaging role. For example, if two rules are given in robot.txt which are

User-agent

Allow: / page1.html

Allow: / page2.html

Disallow: /page 1.html

Then, Google will ignore the last disallow instruction because it is already allowed. And for this reason, we can say that allowing all the rules by Google is unnecessary because Google will already do that.

Index without Content:- Index without Content will be a warning. The index without warning will show up when any page is present on the Google index page, as, for some technical reason, Google will not be able to read the content of that page. If Google seems that the content of the page is visible to normal human visitors but also not being seen by a search engine or some other content is being seen, then this warning can also appear. As for the resolution, you should check your website to see why the content is not visible to Google.

Soft 4O4 Reporting:- Soft 4O4 Reporting is not a technical issue although it is Google’s term. If any page gives two hundred status codes, then Google thinks that the page is blank or the content on a page is very less than Google tag or report as Soft 4O4. Google wants to tell you that check your pages or add more content or remove it. As before, Google was not giving much detailed information regarding this, but now Google will give more information so that the webmaster can solve all the issues regarding soft 4O4.

All these four updates can help in improving your websites and also help in the identification of pages that are not indexed as well as the pages which are not indexed. But to understand all these updates, you have to understand about Google Search Console, Bing webmaster tools. The more technical knowledge you have, the much easier the SEO will be.
